Alan Warren is a researcher at the Natural History Museum, London, UK, specialising in the biodiversity and systematics of ciliates.  Current work is mainly focused on the morphology, morphogenesis and molecular phylogeny of marine ciliates and the use of ciliates as bioindicators of water quality. Other roles include: (i) curator of the NHM protozoan protist collection; (ii) member of editorial board of European Journal of Protistology, Protistology, Journal of Oceanology and Limnology, Marine Life Science & Technology, and Aula Museos y Colecciones de Ciencias Naturales; (iii) member of steering committee of the International Research Coordination Network for Biodiversity of Ciliates.

Alan served as Vice President of the International Society of Protistologists (2013-2014) and President of Protistology-UK (2012-2015).
